The majority presidential parties in Mauritania have announced their agreement to nominate President Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani for a second presidential term.
This decision comes just days after he initially declined to reveal his intention to run in the upcoming presidential race scheduled for next year, as reported by local media.
The announcement of this agreement followed a meeting held at the headquarters of the Infitah Party in the capital, Nouakchott, attended by all the leaders of the majority parties.
In a joint statement, the parties confirmed that after reviewing the political situation in the country and evaluating the performance of the majority, they reached an agreement to activate joint efforts and reaffirm their commitment to the approach of President Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani.
