Haiti: Gangs and Police Fighting to Remove Prime Minister Result in Deaths and Injuries

As gangs attempt to remove Prime Minister Ariel Henry from office, violence has broken out in Haiti.

Clashes have been reported close to the city’s prison and international airport. Numerous security personnel have been hurt and at least 4 security personnel have died since the fighting started last Thursday.

In recent years, armed gangs have taken control of large portions of the nation, igniting a bloodbath that has crippled both Haiti’s public healthcare system and economy.

The recent assaults are thought to be the most recent in a string of violent outbursts carried out by gangs banded together under the name “Living Together” with the express purpose of deposing Prime Minister Ariel Henry.

Henry traveled to Nairobi yesterday, Friday, to sign a “mutual” agreement with Kenya that calls for the deployment of a police force as part of an international effort to restore law and order in the unstable Caribbean nation.
