Vladimir Putin Retains His Fifth Term as Russian President

Vladimir Putin was proclaimed the winner of a record number of votes for a fifth term by the Russian Central Election Commission on Monday.

According to the Russian Central Election Commission, Putin received 87.29 percent of the vote after almost all polling places were counted.

Ella Pamfilova, the head of the commission, announced that approximately 76 million voters backed Putin, marking the highest number of votes ever cast for him.
