Seven Million Senegalese Voters to Choose New Leader

Approximately 7 million Senegalese voters will go to the polls on Sunday, March 24, to select the next president to replace outgoing leader Macky Sall.

There are 20 presidential contenders in the election, which is a record since Senegal gained its independence.

Among them are the opposition coalition’s nominee, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, and the ruling coalition’s candidate, former prime minister Amadou Ba.

Khalifa Sall, the former mayor of Dakar, is the third contender.

The only two female candidates in Senegal’s history to run for office are “Rose Wardini” and “Anta Babacar Ngom,” a doctor and businesswoman, respectively.
