Macron calls for dialogue in New Caledonia After a week of protests

After arriving in New Caledonia, French President Emmanuel Macron called for dialogue and a return to calm after a week of unrest in the South Pacific nation
Macron met with police chiefs and local officials in an attempt to contain protests sparked by a draft constitutional amendment allowing French nationals to vote in local elections after 10 years of residency in the province.
The province has been under French administration for years.
