Maradona’s family seek to block sale of 1986 Mexico World Cup Ballon d’Or trophy

Lawyers for the heirs of Argentine football legend Diego Maradona have called for a freeze on the sale of the Ballon d’Or trophy awarded to the late star in 1986
which is scheduled to take place during an auction in early June in France.
Maradona’s heirs pointed out that the golden ball, which was found by an antique dealer, is legally theirs.
According to Maradona’s family, the trophy, that Maradona won at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, was stolen during a bank robbery in October 1989 in Naples.
Only a few weeks ago, the player’s family discovered that the trophy would be sold during an auction on 6 June in Neuilly-sur-Seine, near Paris.
The family urgently took immediate legal action to try to recover the golden ball.
