Saudi Arabia appoints its first ambassador to Syria since 2012

Saudi Arabia has named Faisal al-Majfal as its new ambassador to Syria, more than a year after
the resumption of relations between Riyadh and Damascus.
Al-Majfal will be Saudi Arabia’s first ambassador to Damascus since the closure of its embassy in 2012.
Saudi Arabia severed diplomatic ties more than 10 years ago due to the bloody conflict in Syria.
Earlier this year, Riyadh announced the resumption of the work of its diplomatic mission in Syria after Damascus reopened its embassy in Saudi Arabia in December last year.
