Ali Larijani to run in Iran’s presidential election

Ali Larijani, the former speaker of parliament and current adviser to Iranian leader Ali Khamenei, on Friday filed his candidacy for the presidential election.
Larijani previously ran in Iran’s 2005 presidential election, finishing sixth.
He served as secretary-general of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council between 2005 and 2007.
Yesterday, the Iranian Presidential Election Commission registered the acceptance of the first candidate on the election list, Mustafa Kavakbian, after the opening of the nomination period, which will close on 3 June.
Iran has previously announced that it will hold presidential elections on 28 June.
