Cholera cases in Yemen double, surpassing 63,000 infected

Yemeni health authorities announced today, Monday, that the number of registered cholera cases has risen to more than 63,000 people, representing an increase of over 200 percent compared to the end of last April. This unprecedented increase poses a danger to the lives of individuals who face difficulties in accessing healthcare.
In a related context, 20 out of Yemen’s 22 governorates are witnessing a significant increase in acute watery diarrhea cases, with over 63,000 cases reported by May 31st, compared to around 20,000 cases at the end of the previous month.
This increase is attributed to limitations in conducting tests, with more than 2,700 cases confirmed as cholera infections through laboratory testing, according to official sources.
