French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Sunday evening the dissolution of parliament and the organisation of new legislative elections
on 30 June this year
Macron said in a speech from the Elysee presidential palace: “I have decided to give you back the choice of our parliamentary future through the vote. I am therefore dissolving the National Assembly.”
The early legislative elections will be held in its first round on 30 June, while the second round will be held on 7 July.
The French president’s decision to dissolve the parliament came after right-wing parties won the European parliamentary elections with 40 per cent of the French votes.
