Jordan hosts an international conference on relief in Gaza

Jordan hosts today, Tuesday, an international conference for emergency humanitarian response in the Gaza Strip, with the participation of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. The conference is organized jointly by the United Nations, Jordan, and Egypt.
The war that erupted following an unprecedented attack by Hamas inside Israel on October 7th last year led to a humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip, resulting in the deaths of more than thirty thousand Palestinians and widespread destruction of infrastructure. The ongoing siege poses a continued threat of a humanitarian disaster.

The conference, held at the King Hussein bin Talal Convention Center on the shores of the Dead Sea, is expected to be attended by UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths, as well as leaders of states, governments, and international humanitarian and relief organizations. Its aim is to enhance international community engagement with the humanitarian appeal in Gaza, according to a statement from the Jordanian Royal Court.
