Malawi’s President Lazarus Chakwera has announced that his deputy Saulos Chilima and nine others were killed after their military plane crashed in a mountainous area in the north of the country.
In a live speech broadcast on state television, Chakwera said that the wreckage of the aircraft was located after an all-day search operation in forests and mountainous terrain near the northern city of Mzuzu, confirming that there were no survivors of the accident.
The plane carrying Malawi’s vice president and nine others disappeared on Monday, according to a statement from the country’s president’s office.
