At least 11 people have been killed in a massive forest fire that broke out in several villages in southeastern Turkey, the Turkish government said.
Interior Minister Ali Yerli Kaya said the fire broke out on Thursday night in an area about 30 kilometres south of Diyarbakir and spread quickly due to strong winds, reaching five villages.
“Another 78 people were injured in the fires, some of whom were hospitalised,” Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said, noting that “five of them are in critical condition
Turkey has seen 74 forest fires so far this year, according to the European Forest Fire Information System.
