Algeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set the deadline for the submission of candidacy files for the presidential elections scheduled for 7 September.
The president of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mohamed Cherfi, said that presidential candidates have until 18 July to prove the validity of their participation by submitting a complete file containing 50,000 signatures from voters or 600 recommendations from elected officials.
During a press conference held by the electoral commission on Sunday, Cherfi announced that 26 candidates had withdrawn their nomination forms for the upcoming presidential elections.
So far, several leaders of opposition political parties have announced their intention to participate in Algeria’s presidential race.
