At least six people were killed and others injured after Kenyan police fired live ammunition at demonstrators in Nairobi protesting against new taxes to be recommended by parliament, Amnesty International Kenya said.

Demonstrators stormed Kenya’s parliament in the capital Nairobi today to protest against a bill to impose new taxes, with police firing live ammunition at the protesters, Amnesty International said.
Hundreds of protesters bypassed police barricades outside parliament and stormed the gates of the building, according to footage broadcast on Kenyan television.

Protests against the bill began this morning in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, before spreading across the country.
