Iran’s presidential election: Campaign silence period begins.

Iran’s Electoral Commission announced the end of the campaign period for the 14th presidential election as of 8am on Thursday.

“All candidates, parties, political groups, supporters and the general public should refrain from any promotional activities for or against any candidate and should not carry any promotional materials or symbols on election day,” the commission said in a statement.

Campaigning for the finalists began on 12 June and lasted for 16 days, with the election of a president to be held tomorrow, Friday 28 June, by direct vote of the people.

Former president Ebrahim Raisi was killed in a helicopter crash near Iran’s border with Azerbaijan on 20 May 2024.
