Iranian Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi on Friday announced the start of voting in the country’s 14th presidential election.
“More than 61 million voters are eligible to participate in the election,” Vahidi said.
The head of the Presidential Election Commission, Mohammad Taghi Shahjaraghi, said there are about 60,000 polling stations inside and outside the country, some fixed and some mobile.
Outside Iran, there are 138 missions in 99 countries and 344 polling stations have been allocated according to the population distribution of Iranian citizens.
“Voting will start at 8am and continue for 10 hours until 6pm, according to the law, and if there is a need for an extension, it will be announced by the interior minister,” said Taqi Shahjaraghi.
The Iranian presidential election is being held between the four remaining candidates, Saeed Jalili, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, Massoud Bazeshkian and Mostafa Pourmohammadi.
