Voting begins tomorrow in the first round of France’s historic legislative elections. Some 49 million French voters have been invited to renew the National Assembly (Parliament) with all 577 deputies in the elections, which will be followed by a second round on 7 July.
The snap elections were called by French President Emmanuel Macron, who announced the dissolution of the National Assembly by presidential decree on 9 June, hours after the far-right won the European elections in France.
The far-right parties are leading the voting intentions results, well ahead of President Macron’s bloc and the left-wing and socialist parties.
Pollsters in France expect turnout in the legislative elections to rise to possibly more than two-thirds of registered voters, a significant increase from the last legislative elections in 2022, when turnout was limited to more than 47 per cent of registered voters.
