Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced on Monday that dialogue between his country and the United States will resume on Wednesday, less than a month before Venezuela’s presidential election.
Maduro said in a televised speech that his government would resume talks with the US on Wednesday.
In April, the US announced it was reimposing sanctions on Venezuela’s oil and gas sector over allegations that Maduro’s government was continuing to crack down on the opposition ahead of presidential elections scheduled for 28 July.
The US had suspended some sanctions on Caracas after the Maduro government and the opposition agreed to hold free and fair elections in 2024 with international observers.
