Unidentified gunmen have killed around 40 people in an attack on a rebel-held village in the centre of the country, local officials in Mali have said.
The attack took place in the village of Djiguibombo in the Mopti region, one of several areas in northern and central Mali where armed groups linked to al-Qaeda and ISIS are active.
The mayor of Bancas said gunmen surrounded the village and opened fire, killing 40 people.
The Malian authorities have not identified the attackers and no group has yet claimed responsibility.
