The Coordination of Revolutionary Resistance Committees in Sudan confirmed on Thursday that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) took control of the al-Mariam area on the border with South Sudan in West Kordofan state.
The coordination added that military clashes erupted early Wednesday morning, in which both sides used all types of light and heavy weapons and aerial bombardment.
Al-Mariam is one of the border towns with South Sudan and the only crossing point for food supplies to Al-Daein, the capital of East Darfur state.
The fighting between the Sudanese army and the RSF erupted suddenly in mid-April 2023, while military and civilian parties were finalising an internationally-backed political process.
