A massive wildfire has spread across Northern California in the United States, forcing at least 13,000 people to flee their homes and prompting federal authorities to declare a state of emergency.
The Thompson Fire broke out about 110 kilometres north of Sacramento, in and around the town of Oroville in Butte County.
The city of about 20,000 people declared a state of emergency on Tuesday night as flames destroyed several homes and no injuries were reported.
