Reformist candidate Masoud Bazeshkian won the second round of Iran’s presidential election on Saturday against conservative candidate Saeed Jalili, state media reported.
Election officials have so far counted more than 30 million votes, with Bazeshkian receiving about 17 million and Jalili more than 13 million, according to results released by the Interior Ministry.
According to Mohsen Eslami, spokesman for the Iranian Election Commission, Masoud Bazeshkian received 16 million, 384,403 votes, while Saeed Jalili received 13 million, 538,538,179 votes, after 30 million, 530,530,157 votes were counted from polling stations inside and outside the country.
The turnout in the second round of the presidential election was 49.8 per cent, according to the Iranian news agency IRNA.
The second round of Iran’s presidential election was held on Friday to choose the country’s ninth president between candidates Saeed Jalili and Masoud Bazeshkian.
