A 6.7 magnitude earthquake struck the Philippine island of Mindanao today (Thursday), the German Centre for Geosciences said, according to Reuters.
The quake struck at a depth of 630 kilometres, the centre said. The Philippine Seismological Services said in a statement that the quake, which occurred at a great depth and under water, was not expected to cause any damage, but aftershocks were expected. The Philippines lies on the Pacific “Ring of Fire”, where volcanic and seismic activity is common.
