The death toll from the floods in northeast India has risen to 90, according to the Indian newspaper ‘Hindustan Times’.

The paper quoted Assam state officials as saying that the death toll was continuing to rise despite a lessening of the severity of the torrential rains and floods.

It added that the death toll had risen to 90.

The Indian Meteorological Department had issued a red alert for the region due to the monsoon rains.
