China to host unity talks between Fatah and Hamas

The Chinese capital Beijing is preparing to host delegations from Fatah and Hamas in a first round of Chinese-led talks, according to the New York Times.

Hamas politburo chief Ismail Haniyeh is expected to lead the Hamas delegation to the talks, while Fatah will be represented by three officials, including its deputy chairman Mahmoud al-Aloul. According to the paper, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will meet both sides next week.

The two movements met in China in April to discuss reconciliation efforts and end 17 years of political division.
