Bangladesh has announced it will close all public and private universities indefinitely from Wednesday after student protests against a quota system for government jobs turned deadly this week, killing at least seven people and injuring dozens more.

The country has been rocked by weeks of protests over quotas for public sector jobs, which include a 30 per cent reservation for family members of freedom fighter.
