Iran denies any role in assassination attempt on Donald Trump

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani on Wednesday denied any role in the assassination attempt on former US president and current presidential candidate Donald Trump.

In remarks carried by the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Kanani described “these allegations as politically motivated and tendentious”, stressing that Tehran was determined to pursue Trump for his “direct role” in the assassination of Qassem Soleimani, the late commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ (IRGC) Quds Force (IRGC-QF).

On Saturday, a gunman opened fire on Trump during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, killing one attendee and seriously wounding two others.

US authorities have received information about a “plot hatched by Iran” to assassinate Trump, CNN reported on Tuesday, citing sources it described as well-informed.
