The White House announced on Wednesday evening that US President Joe Biden had contracted the coronavirus.

White House spokeswoman Karen Jean-Pierre said in a statement that Biden had received the COVID-19 vaccine, which caused him to develop mild symptoms.

She noted that Biden will be in isolation in Delaware.

The US President took a coronavirus test after an event in Las Vegas, she said, noting that the test results came back positive.

She said he would continue his duties in Delaware and that the White House would continue to provide updates on his health.

Biden’s doctor’s note, included in the statement, said he had symptoms of an upper respiratory infection and that his temperature and pulse were normal.
