Democratic Republic of Congo: Ceasefire extended by two weeks

A ceasefire between the army and armed groups announced on 5 July has been extended for a further two weeks, according to media reports in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The ceasefire extension was announced on Friday, following US-brokered meetings between the two sides in the United States.

The ceasefire will allow displaced civilians to return to their homes.
A ceasefire was declared last year in the run-up to elections, but clashes between armed groups and the DRC army have resumed.
