Forest fires in Algeria leave 15 dead and 26 injured

The Algerian Ministry of the Interior announced today the death of 15 people and the injury of 26 others as a result of fires in several states of the country, noting that 1,500 citizens have been evacuated.

According to the German News Agency (DPA), the Algerian Interior Ministry said in a press release today that 97 fires had broken out in forests, jungles and agricultural fields.
It noted that the states of Bejaia, Bouira and Jijel had recorded the most widespread fires.
Firefighting operations are underway in six provinces: Boumerdas, Bouira, Tizi Ouzou, Bejaia, Jijel and Skikda, with the participation of “13 mobile units and 3050 personnel, reinforced this morning by 12 mobile units and 1200 additional personnel.
