Sudan yesterday restored diplomatic relations with Iran after an eight-year estrangement that began in June 2016.
The head of Sudan’s sovereignty council, army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, received the credentials of Hassan Shah, Iran’s ambassador to Sudan, in Port Sudan.
Sudan had announced an agreement to resume diplomatic relations with Iran in October 2023, following a series of high-level contacts between the two countries and taking the necessary measures to open their embassies and exchange official delegations.
