Beijing meeting : Palestinian factions agree to form reconciliation government

Palestinian factions have signed a declaration in the Chinese capital Beijing that includes the formation of a national consensus government to oversee the reconstruction of Gaza, a Hamas leader said on Tuesday.

Hussam Badran, head of Hamas’ national relations office and a member of its political bureau, said the formation of a national consensus government was the “best and most appropriate” solution for the post-war Palestinian situation, adding that the agreement stipulated that the national consensus government in the West Bank and Gaza would create the conditions for elections.

Xinhua news agency reported that representatives of Palestinian factions signed a declaration in the Chinese capital Beijing on Tuesday pledging to end divisions and promote unity.

The meeting, held at the invitation of the Chinese side, was attended by senior figures from 14 Palestinian factions in the Chinese capital between 21 and 23 July, Xinhua said.
