US Secret Service chief resigns over Trump assassination attempt

US Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle has resigned, US media reported on Tuesday, a day after she admitted the agency failed in its mission to prevent an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

Cheatle faced bipartisan calls to resign after a 20-year-old gunman shot the Republican presidential candidate in the right ear during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on 13 July.
Cheatle admitted to Congress on Monday that she and her agency failed to prevent an assassination attempt on former president and presidential candidate Donald Trump.
