Macron says he will not name new prime minister before end of Olympics

French President Emmanuel Macron has said he will not choose a new prime minister before the end of the Olympics to avoid “chaos”, a local broadcaster reported on Tuesday.

In an interview with France 2, Macron said. “This government has prepared for the [Olympic] Games and it is our responsibility to make sure they go well.”
Saying that changing the prime minister and appointing a new government would create “chaos”, Macron called on political parties to seek consensus formulas in the country’s parliament in the absence of an absolute majority.

Gabriel Attal submitted his resignation as prime minister to Macron on 8 July after the ruling party failed to secure a majority in early parliamentary elections.

On 16 July, Macron accepted Attal’s resignation but asked him to remain as caretaker prime minister until a new government is formed.
