The French railway network was hit by a major attack and acts of vandalism, including arson.
French railway company SNCF said it was hit by a “large-scale and widespread attack aimed at paralysing” its high-speed train network on Thursday night, hours before the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris.
The company said in a statement: “We will divert some trains to the conventional route, but we will have to cancel a significant number” of services.
“This situation may continue throughout the weekend, at least until we are able to make repairs.”
The company urged passengers to postpone their journeys and stay away from station.
