A judoka from Iraq tested positive for an anabolic steroid at the Paris Olympics on Friday.
The International Testing Agency announced that Sajjad Ghanem, a 28-year-old judoka from Iraq, had tested positive, making him the first Olympic athlete to be caught doping.
The agency, which is overseeing the anti-doping programme at the Paris Olympics, said Ghanem had been provisionally suspended pending disciplinary proceedings.
It added: “This means that the athlete is prohibited from competing, training, coaching others or participating in any activity during the Olympic Games” Paris 2024.
The athlete was due to compete next Tuesday.
