19 people killed in explosion in Nigeria’s Borno state

An explosion at a cafe in a village in north-eastern Nigeria has killed 19 people and injured 20 others, security sources said on Thursday. The blast occurred on Wednesday night in Kauri village in Borno state.

Ibrahim Liman, a member of an anti-extremist militia working with the army, told AFP: “There was an explosion in a tea shop in Kawuri around 8pm yesterday. “We found 19 bodies and 27 wounded.

No group has yet claimed responsibility.

Major bombings in the city have become rare since the army drove militant groups out of areas under their control at the height of the conflict in 2014.
