Paris urges its nationals in Iran to leave as soon as possible

France on Friday called on its nationals “still in Iran” to leave the country “as soon as possible” due to the “increased” risk of military escalation between Israel and Tehran following the assassination of Hamas politburo chief Ismail Haniyeh.

“Officially, French citizens are not advised to travel to Iran for any reason whatsoever,” said the French foreign ministry, which did not specify how many of its citizens are affected by this new recommendation.

Iran, Hamas and Hezbollah accused Israel of assassinating Ismail Haniyeh in a strike on his residence in Tehran on Wednesday, after he participated in the inauguration ceremony of Iran’s new president Masoud Bazeshkian.

This came hours after senior Hizbullah military commander Fouad Shukr was killed in an Israeli strike on the southern suburbs of Beirut.
