Somali police said on Saturday that the death toll from the attack on the popular Lido beach in the Somali capital Mogadishu late on Friday night had risen to 32.

“More than 32 civilians were killed in this attack and about 63 were injured, some of them seriously,” Somali police spokesman Abdifatah Aden Hassan told reporters, according to AFP.
Somalia’s ambulance service earlier put the death toll from the attack on Mogadishu’s popular beach at eight, with 28 wounded.

Former Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire said an explosion hit a popular beach in the Somali capital late on Friday. The blast occurred while people were swimming at the Lido beach, resulting in deaths and injuries, Khaire said on his Xbox account.
