Iranian authorities have carried out “widespread arrests” in connection with Wednesday’s assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the political bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), the New York Times reports, citing well-informed Iranian sources.
More than 20 people were arrested, including “senior intelligence officers, military officials and employees of the army-run guesthouse in northern Tehran,” the paper reported, adding that security protocols for senior officials had been changed over the past two days.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guards announced today that technical investigations show that the assassination of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran at dawn last Wednesday was carried out with a 7.5 kilogram projectile.
“The operation was carried out by firing a short-range projectile from outside Haniyeh’s residence,” the IRGC said in a statement.
