UNICEF: Sudan faces largest child displacement crisis in the world

The humanitarian crisis facing children in Sudan is the largest in the world in terms of numbers, said James Elder, spokesman for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Speaking to journalists in Geneva via videoconference, he said that children in Sudan have witnessed countless atrocities that go unreported, often due to very limited access.

He noted that nearly five million children in Sudan have been forced to flee their homes, with a staggering 10,000 girls and boys being displaced every day, making Sudan the largest child displacement crisis in the world.
