Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has said the third round of Turkishbrokered talks between Somalia and Ethiopia will take place in Ankara on 17 September.
Speaking at a joint press conference with his Somali counterpart Ahmed Moalem Faki and Ethiopian counterpart Taye Asge Selassie on Tuesday, Fidan said the third round of Somali-Ethiopian talks would be held in Ankara on 17 September.
Relations between the two neighbours have deteriorated since Ethiopia signed an agreement with Somaliland on 1 January 2023, allowing Addis Ababa to use the region’s Red Sea coast for commercial and military purposes.
Somalia rejected Ethiopia’s deal with Somaliland, calling it “illegal, a threat to good neighbourliness and a violation of its sovereignty”, and recalled its ambassador to Ethiopia after the deal was announced.
