South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs on Sunday deported 95 Libyans who were arrested last month at an alleged illegal military training base in the country.
Police arrested the 95 Libyans in July after allegedly finding them conducting military training in the White River area of Mpumalanga province. But South Africa’s National Prosecuting Authority withdrew the charges against them on Thursday, saying there was insufficient evidence to convict them of breaching the country’s immigration laws.
The Department of Home Affairs said in a statement on Sunday that it had completed its role in the deportation of the 95 Libyans by announcing that ‘they are scheduled to depart South Africa this morning from Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport on a flight paid for by the Libyan government’.
