Blinken arrives in Egypt for talks on Gaza ceasefire

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has arrived in the northern Egyptian city of Alamein for talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and his foreign minister on achieving a ceasefire in Gaza and ending the war.

Blinken arrived in Egypt from Tel Aviv as part of his ninth trip to the region since the genocidal war in Gaza began on 7 October, and met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to AFP.

On Friday, the United States presented a new proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages at the Doha talks, but Hamas said it was a retreat from the first American proposal presented by President Joe Biden after he failed to convince the occupation leadership.
