Iranian parliament votes confidence in President Pazeshkian’s government

Iran’s parliament on Wednesday gave full confidence to the new government presented by President Masoud Pazeshkian.

The 19 names proposed by Pazeshkian received full confidence after five days of parliamentary debate, local media reported.

The foreign ministry went to Abbas Araqchi, who served as deputy foreign minister and chief nuclear negotiator under former president Hassan Rouhani.

Eskandar Momeni, former secretary-general of the Anti-Narcotics Organisation, became interior minister, while deputy chief of staff and former air force commander Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh was appointed defence minister.

The incumbent minister of intelligence, Ismail Khatib, remained in office for another term after winning a vote of confidence in parliament.
