Tunisia’s administrative court has reinstated candidate Abdellatif Mekki in the presidential election on 6 October after he was disqualified by the electoral commission.
Faisal Bouguerra, spokesman for the Administrative Court, said the court had accepted Mekki’s appeal ‘in form and substance, annulled the contested primary ruling and reinstated him in the presidential race’.
With the court’s decision, Mekki, leader of the Labour and Achievement Party, joins the other candidates whose candidacies have been approved: outgoing President Kais Saeed, Azmoun Party leader Ayachi Zemal and Zouhair Meghzawi, secretary-general of the Popular Movement Party.
The Administrative Court is expected to issue further decisions in the coming days on other prominent politicians who have appealed,
