Yemen’s Presidential Council Chairman Rashad al-Olaimi arrived in the southwestern province of Taiz on Tuesday from the interim capital Aden, in his first visit since assuming office in 2022, a government source said.
According to local media outlets, the visit is Al-Olaimi’s ‘first since assuming the presidency in April 2022’ and the first visit by a Yemeni president in 15 years.
The legitimate government and the Houthi group share control of Taiz, Yemen’s most populous governorate, with the government controlling the governorate’s eponymous centre.
Yemen has been witnessing a war for nearly two years between forces loyal to the legitimate government and the Houthi group.
