Dozens killed and missing due to floods and dam collapses in Yemen

The torrential floods that hit Yemen have caused the death and loss of more than 41 people, according to the United Nations Population Fund office in Yemen.

The UN organization stated that the floods caused by the rains and the collapse of 3 dams in the Malhan district of Al-Mahwit governorate, caused the death of 24 people, and the loss of 17 others.

The floods destroyed 40 homes damaged about 230 homes, affected 1,020 families, and led to the cutting off roads linking the affected areas to others within the district.

Al-Mahwit, located west of the capital Sana’a, along with the governorates of Raymah, Hajjah, and Al-Hodeidah, are among the most affected governorates in Yemen by the repercussions of the heavy rains and floods that have been witnessed since the beginning of last July.
