A local official reported that the floods that swept through northern Yemen this week resulted in the death of at least 33 people and caused significant damage to more than 200 homes.
The heavy rains, which led to these floods, began last Tuesday as part of Yemen’s monsoon season, causing widespread flooding and landslides in the Malhan district of Al-Mahwit Governorate.
The Secretary-General of the Local Council of Al-Mahwit Governorate, Ali Al-Zakam, wrote in a Facebook post that the floods resulted in the death of 33 people, the destruction of 28 homes, and cracks in 200 other houses. He added that the floods also swept away five cars and led to the disappearance of several individuals.
